TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government on Thursday announced that it will exempt airline passengers from airport tax or passenger service charge (PSC) who depart from 13 airports. This decision had been taken to boost the aviation industry and tourism in general amidst the economically-crippling pandemic.

“Passengers will not be charged with PSC since that will be excluded from the airfare cost component and the PSC will be charged by operators to the government,” said the Transportation Ministry’s director-general of air transportation, Novie Riyanto in a virtual press conference on October 22.

This decision was taken after the ministry signed a stimulus deal with government-run airport operators and national aviation associations. This airport tax exemption is hoped to entice people to travel more and help revive the industry back to its feet.

The stimulus given by the government includes covering the costs for recalibration of flight navigation equipment and aircraft landing aids at airports run by Angkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II.

The 13 airports include the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang (CGK), Hang Nadim - Batam (BTH), Kualanamu - Deliserdang (KNO), I Gusti Ngurah Rai in Denpasar (DPS), Yogyakarta Internasional in Kulon Progo (YIA), Halim Perdanakusuma - Jakarta (HLP), Internasional Lombok - Praya (LOP), Jenderal Ahmad Yani - Semarang (SRG), Sam Ratulangi - Manado (MDC), Komodo - Labuan Bajo (LBJ), Silangit (DTB), Blimbingsari - Banyuwangi (BWX), Adi Sucipto - Yogyakarta (JOG).
