TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bandung's dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital reported Covid-19 reinfection after a patient contracted the coronavirus disease twice in a span of 3-4 months. The hospital's team of doctors is investigating the case now.

According to the hospital's Special Infection Management Team head, Yovita Hartantri, a woman in her 30s from Bandung had tested positive for the coronavirus twice. The first time was in June, when she was asymptomatic.

She was declared to have recovered. But in October she returned to Hasan Sadikin Hospital, this time with a fever. After a swab test, she was confirmed to have the virus again. She recovered again and had been discharged from the hospital.

This was the first case of Covid-19 reinfection that the Hasan Sadikin Hospital recorded. "Just that one case," Yovita, a specialist in internal medicine, said on Tuesday, October 20.

Yovita said that doctors are now examining whether she contracted the same strain or a different one. The doctors' team also received information that the female patient thought she was immune to the SARS-CoV-2 after catching it and recovering; which led to her being neglectful of health protocols.

Another reported reinfection had come from dr. Iskak Hospital in, Tulungagung, East Java. The Tulungagung Covid-19 Task Force spokesman, Galih Nusantoro, said that a patient tested positive on July 22, and recovered on 25 July. In late September, the patient — a 52 year-old medic — tested positive again. After 20 days of treatment, he passed away.

Yovita said that similar reports have emerged around the globe. In the USA, a 25-year-old male had light symptoms during his first infection, but returned with severe conditions the second time around.
