TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Jakarta firefighters on early Sunday helped evacuate 52 residents of three sub-districts which had been inundated since Saturday evening.

"The areas affected by flooding are in several neighborhoods in Ciracas, Pasar Rebo, and Kramat Jati Sub-districts," Gatot Sulaeman, Head of the East Jakarta Fire Brigade, said here on Sunday.

In Ciracas, as many as 33 flood victims including five children and 12 women as well as a person with disabilities, were moved to higher grounds.

Flood waters reaching a height of up to one meter high swamped their homes in Kelapa 2 Wetan area.

In Pasar Rebo, Firefighters evacuated 13 residents including six children and an elderly person, from flood-hit Cakrabuwana and Manunggal streets.

in Kramat Jati, rescuers took five elderly residents to a safer place as their homes were inundated by flood waters reaching a height of up to 1.5 meters.

The flood victims were mostly accommodated temporarily in neighbors' houses and nearby mosques.

The East Jakarta Fire Brigade deployed dozens of personnel and rubber boats to carry out the evacuation process.

Jakarta was raining on Saturday evening that caused several rivers to spild over their banks.
