TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate closed access roads to the House of Representatives (DPR) Building in Senayan, Central Jakarta this morning, October 5, 2020, as labor unions planned to stage a rally against omnibus law on the job creation bill or RUU Cipta Kerja.

“Avoid streets around the DPR/MPR Building in anticipation of demonstrations,” said Jakarta Police Traffic Unit Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo in a written statement, Monday, October 5, 2020.

He said Jalan Gatot Subroto and Jalan Gelora will be completely shut down. Vehicles from Semanggi heading to Sipi will be directed to Jalan Gerbang Pemuda or Gelora Bung Karno or GBK Gate X.

The traffic from Jalan Gerbang Pemuda willing to pass the flyover will be asked to make a U-turn, while vehicles from Palmerah Timur bound for Jalan Gelora will be ordered to straight to Jalan Tentara Pelajar.

“Traffic flow from the inner-city toll road willing to leave the off-ramp toll gate at Pulo Dua will be asked to continue to Tomang,” Sambodo added.

As reported previously, dozens of leaders of workers’ confederations and federations on Sunday, September 27, agreed to hold a national strike as a form of objection to the omnibus law.

The national strike will be followed by some 5 million workers in thousands of companies across 25 provinces and 300 regencies or cities starting from Tuesday, October 6 until Thursday, October 8, 2020. The strike will involve workers in industrial sectors such as chemical, energy, and mining, as well as logistics and banking.
