TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government recorded the death rate caused by Covid-19 in the city hit 2.3 percent. The regional Health Agency’s head of disease prevention and control, Dwi Oktavia, confirmed there were 1,718 people who died of the coronavirus infection as of September 29, 2020.

“A total of 1,718 patients died, so the mortality rate is 2.3 percent, while Indonesia’s death rate is 3.7 percent,” said Dwi in a written statement on Tuesday, September 29.

Jakarta logged 1,132 new positive cases today, bringing the city’s tally to 73,309. Of the number, 58,865 patients have made recoveries. The recovery rate, Dwi added, is 80.3 percent.

As many as 12,726 patients, meanwhile, were still being treated at hospitals or in self-isolation.

“The positivity rate in Jakarta for the last week is 10 percent, and the nationwide rate is 7.9 percent,” Dwi said.

Given the hike in death rate caused by Covid-19, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan instructed the city’s Bina Marga Agency to expand the burial grounds in several cemeteries for people who died due to the disease, such as in Pondok Rangon Public Cemetery in East Jakarta and Tegal Alur Cemetery in West Jakarta.
