TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) speaker Puan Maharani asked the government to lower the prices of the Covid-19 swab test. According to Puan, this could be a part of efforts to control and mitigate the pandemic.

“We appeal to the government to lower the prices of swab test and set the standard,” said Puan in a written statement on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.

Puan argued that more affordable prices could encourage people to carry out the test independently. With the increasing public awareness and number of tests, measures to contain the pandemic could produce better results, the PDIP politician added.

She asserted that the handling of the pandemic must be carried out thoroughly and under good coordination between the central and regional governments.

The public awareness, Puan went on, must also be improved, particularly with regards to the health principles of wearing face masks, maintaining physical distance, and washing hands with running water and soap.

“I demand [the government] have clear standards on the Covid-19 mitigation throughout Indonesia so that the handling will be effective, and comprehensively, it will be mutual cooperation in handling the pandemic,” Puan Maharani said.
