TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Large-Scale Social Distancing (PSBB) measure, re-imposed by the Jakarta Government following a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the capital city, has managed to help reduce the number of cases.

"Basing the active case chart is not the final goal. We still have to work together to break the chain of transmission," Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said here on Saturday.

Data from the Jakarta Provincial Government showed that since the PSBB implementation from Sept 12 to 23 (12 days), there were 13,277 active cases, or an increase of 1,453 (12 percent) from 11,824 active cases on Sept 11.

Prior to the implementation of the PSBB measure, Jakarta recorded 7,960 active cases on August 30, and 12 days later, on Sept 11, it jumped to 11,824, or up by 3,864 (49 percent).

Despite the slowing down on active cases, the Jakarta authorities remained vigilant because it could spike again.

Hence, Anies Baswedan decided to extend the PSBB until Oct 11, 2020, by enforcing health protocols focusing on 3M (wearing masks, maintaining distance and washing hands) .

The tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Jakarta on Aug 30, reached 39,280, and the tally jumped by 13,041 cases (33 percent) to 52,321 cases on September 11, or within 12 days.

In the following 12 days, on Sept 23, when PSSB was re-imposed, the tally increased by 14,184 (27 percent) to 66,505 cases.

The total number of people recovering from COVID-19 in Jakarta as of Sept 23, reached 51,578 or an increase of 12,463 (32 percent) in the last 12 days.

The death toll was 1,650 as of Sept 23 in the capital city.
