TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of West Java announced that the province’s hotel occupancy saw a sudden dive in tourist visits after Jakarta imposed a large-scale social restriction (PSBB) which effectively hinders people’s mobility.

The association’s West Java region leader Herman Muchtar said the average hotel occupancy rate in August 2020 was 22-27 percent but dropped to 15 percent by the end of September.

"August was helped by the long weekends but dropped again in September, adding that with the Jakarta PSBB. Fifteen percent occupancy is expected to continue on," he said in Bandung on September 22.

According to Herman, the two main factors causing the dropping hotel occupancy rate - apart from the Jakarta PSBB - were the public warnings from the West Java Governor who encouraged Jakartans against visiting West Java.

The second reason, he said, was the misinformation that has spread wildly claiming that the region’s hotels are refusing to serve visitors from Jakarta. For the latter, the PHRI assured that it was a blatant lie.
