Heavy Rains Hit Jakarta; 31 Streets Flooded as of Early Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rain pouring in Jakarta throughout Monday evening, September 21, caused 31 roads to be inundated until Tuesday morning, September 22. The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head of the Data and Information Center (Pusdatin), Mohammad Insyaf, said the water height was around 10-80 centimeters.

“Update info on flooding for September 22, 2020, at 03:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time),” said Mohammad in an official report on Tuesday, September 22.

In West Jakarta, dozens of roads saw floodwaters reaching 50 centimeters, including South Katalia Park Palmerah inundated up to 15 centimeters, Jalan Anggrek Kebon Jeruk up to 20-30 cm, Jalan Taman FF Kebon Jeruk at 30 cm, and Jalan Darma Wanita V Cengkareng up to 20 cm.

Six roads in Kembangan sub-district, West Jakarta, namely Jalan Kembangan Raya, Jalan Teratai, Jalan Basmol, Jalan Taman Kota, Jalan Sanggrahan, and Jalan H. Sarimun, were also inundated around 10 to 50 cm.

In North Jakarta, two roads Jalan Gunung Sahari, Pademangan and Jalan Arwana IV, Penjaringan were also inundated with floodwaters at 15 cm and 10 cm, respectively.

Jakarta also announced that 22 neighboring units (RT) were flooded due to heavy downpour and overflowing of Ciliwung River. They were seven RT in Sukabumi Utara with around 30-80 cm water level, three RT in Sukabumi Selatan at around 120-130 cm water level, one RT in Palmerah, three RT in Rawa Buaya, one RT in Duri Kepa, one RT in Kembangan Utara with 80 cm water level, one RT in Tanjung Duren Utara, one RT in Petamburan, and four RT in East Pejaten.

Jakarta BPBD also noted that 15 people have been evacuated to Riyadhul Saadah Mosque in North Kembangan, West Jakarta.
