TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has officially inaugurated 20 Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors (LBBP) on Monday, September 14, at the State Palace in Central Jakarta.

Out of the 20 names, two notable names that were inaugurated include Muhammad Lutfi, who is the former member of the president’s presidential campaign team in the 2019 election and former president director of private-tv station Metro TV, Suryopratomo.

Lutfi is appointed the LBBP ambassador for the United States in Washington DC after the position was vacant after the previous ambassador, Mahendra SIregar, was summoned by President Jokowi to become Indonesia’s foreign affairs minister deputy in October 2019.

Lutfi was also the former trade minister under the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) administration.

Meanwhile, Suryopratomo - who is also known by his nickname Tommy - is a journalist who led Metro TV as president director and former editorial chief of Kompas. He left his position at the tv station in 2019.

Tommy replaces I Gede Ngurah Swajaya as the Indonesian ambassador for Singapore. Swajaya took the position in 2015.
