TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in a recorded speech released by the city's Public Relations Agency in Brawijaya Hospital on Wednesday says that residents of the Capital will “face a major problem if the number of patients outgrows the number of medical workers.”

Citing the corona.jakarta.go.id, the patients that are currently treated at hospitals amount to 4,432 people with another 6,598 positive cases undergoing self-isolation at home.

The government’s data suggests that 81 percent of isolation rooms in hospitals have been occupied while ICUs are 74 percent occupied. The total amount of hospital beds is 4,045, while there are 513 ICU beds.

COVID-19 cases in Jakarta have reached 13.2 percent this week which has pushed Anies to conduct a meeting with regional communication forum leaders to further address the issue that is getting out of hand.

“The task force will evaluate the latest COVID-19 case development as the situation is starting to be alarming,” said the Governor.

Anies Baswedan announced that he will prepare a new policy to handle the pandemic which will be announced as the fifth phase of transitional large-scale social restriction (PSBB) will end on Thursday, September 10.
