TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has again confirmed that the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the capital city is worrying as the weekly case positivity rate reached 13.2 percent. He said he will issue a new regulation in line with the end of the transitional large-scale social restriction on Thursday, September 10.
“Today, the [city’s Covid-19 mitigation] task force will hold a special meeting to evaluate the latest development of Covid-19 cases in Jakarta because the situation is worrying,” said Anies via a voice recording released by the city's Public Relations Agency in Brawijaya Hospital, Wednesday, September 9.
Other than the high positivity rate, Anies also highlighted the occupancy rate of hospital beds should there be rising in the number of patients. “If the number of people needing medical treatment increases beyond the capacity of hospitals and health workers, we will face a big problem.”
Anies Baswedan then appealed to the public to be disciplined and comply with the health protocols, especially wearing face masks. “I hope all citizens be more disciplined in wearing masks because it is the key [to tackle Covid-19],” said the governor.
As of today, September 9, Jakarta recorded 48,881 Covid-19 cases. Of these, 36,451 patients have made recoveries, and 1,300 patients succumbed to the new coronavirus disease.
