Indonesia Records More than 3,000 New Covid-19 Cases in One Day

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Task Force reported 3,075 new cases of Covid-19 as per noon today, September 2. This brings the nation's total number of confirmed infections to 180,646 people.

The numbers were the results of testing 31,001 specimens. Indonesia also has 81,757 suspected cases monitored by the government.

The Task Force also recorded 1,914 recoveries, bringing the total to 129,971. Meanwhile, the number of deaths increased by 111. Indonesia now has 7,616 coronavirus-related deaths.

According to the Task Force, there has been a significant hike in deaths among confirmed cases over the last week.

"The mortality rate increase by 24.4 percent in the past week," the Task Force's spokesman, Wiku Adisasmito, said in a press conference Tuesday, September 1.

Provinces with the biggest spikes in cases are Bengkulu with 7.29 percent, Central Java (7.18 percent), East Java (7.07 percent), West Nusa Tenggara (5.76 percent), and South Sumatera (5.68 percent).
