TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo conveyed his deepest condolences for the deaths of healthcare workers that died due to COVID-19 exposure. The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) recorded 100 doctors have died due to being exposed to the virus.

“The president once again offers his deepest condolences, including to their relatives left behind. [The doctors] have fought [the disease] without any boundaries, driven with complete dedication and professionalism,” said President Jokowi’s spokesperson Fadjroel Rachman in a written statement on Wednesday.

Moreover, wrote Fadjroel, the government will not stop to encourage people to obey the country’s face mask rules, maintain self-hygiene by hand washing, and maintain physical distancing protocols to help ease the load of medical workers.

“The public is at the forefront of the attempt to break the COVID-19 chain of infection,” the spokesman wrote citing the president. “The government also expects discipline in imposing work shifts, as healthcare workers are the last saviors of the effects of COVID-19.”
