TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Tuesday announced that Indonesia’s weather will transition from the annual drought to the rainy season which will see a number of regions experience extreme weather such as thunderstorms.

The northern part and western coast of Sumatra are expected to experience this weather extremity. BMKG also forecasts the same weather anomaly to take place over the northern part of Central Kalimantan and West Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, and the central part of Papua.

“Expect this weather throughout September,” said BMKG’s head of early weather warning and forecasts, Miming Saepudin, in a virtual national disaster mitigation agency’s (BNPB) press conference on Monday

However, Saepudin warned that there could be meteorological droughts in other parts of Indonesia even though the peak draught season had taken place in August. Areas that would experience less rain is forecasted to take place in East Java, Madura, parts of Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.
