TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan on Wednesday’s webinar with Tempo says that the government “has strong commitments” to develop land transportation infrastructures equally across Indonesia.

“Not just in the Java island, but also all across Indonesia,” said Luhut in the online seminar on transportation.

He continues to explain that the government is currently constructing multiple toll roads in Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and Bali and will follow these projects with the construction of a railway network at each island as the government views land transportation essential and highly contributes to the national economy.

Luhut Pandjaitan also cited a study done by the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of the Economy which shows a 1 percent increase in road length will help improve economic growth by 8.8 percent. He also revealed that the government is amidst developing a battery-based transportation system meant to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
