TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of Indonesia’s regencies or cities that were initially classified as COVID-19 red zones or at a high risk of the new coronavirus disease had decreased to 29 as of August 16, 2020. The spokesman for the pandemic mitigation task force, Wiku Adisasmito, made the report.

On the other hand, he added, the number of orange zones or areas at a medium risk increased by 49 to 237 regencies or cities.

“The number of low-risk areas (yellow zones) also drops to 174 regencies/cities, and the number of areas without new positive cases (green zones) slips to 42 regencies/cities. While there are 32 regencies/cities that are not affected,” said Wiku in a press conference at the Presidential Office, Tuesday, August 18.

In detail, Wiku outlined that for the past week, 18 red zones became orange zones. They are spread in Aceh, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Jakarta, East Java, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Maluku, and North Maluku.

Meanwhile, the 49 regencies/cities that moved to orange zones were reported in Aceh, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau Islands, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, West Papua, and Papua.

“There are new COVID-19 clusters in medium-risk regions (orange zones). This needs to be addressed as the number increases,” said Wiku Adisasmito.
