TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo touched on the law enforcement issues when presenting his annual state of the nation address during the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) annual session.
“The law must be enforced indiscriminately,” he said at the Parliament Building, Friday, August 14.
Wearing Sabu attire originated from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the President said that the high flexibility and simple bureaucracy could not be converted with legal certainty, anti-corruption, and democracy.
“All policies must prioritize environmentally friendly factors and human rights protection,” he remarked.
Besides law enforcement, he argued that democracy is non-negotiable. Democracy must be implemented well without hindering the work speed and legal certainty, as well as setting aside the national culture.
According to Jokowi, the noble values of the country’s ideology Pancasila, the Unitary State of Republic Indonesia (NKRI), and the national unity and integrity cannot be exchanged for anything. “We must not give any chance for people to ruin it.”
