TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Padjadjaran University faculty of medicine's research team is nearing the day the COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial will officially start on August 11, 2020, next week in Bandung City.
According to the project’s field manager, Eddy Fadlyana, the clinical trial of the vaccine, in partnership with China’s Sinovac Biotech, will be held parallel to the volunteer registration process.
“The first day will not see any immunization. The vaccine will only be injected three days after on Friday, August 14,” said the field manager.
During the first day, the team will filter out volunteers through a number of tests, such as physical tests, medical history background checks, and interviews with doctors. There have been 600 volunteers that have signed up for the past week with the goal to collect 1,620 volunteers.
The COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial’s stringent background check will be held across six locations spread across the Padjadjaran University facility, and four community health centers: Puskesmas Sukapakir, Puskesmas Dago, Puskesmas Ciumbuleuit, and Puskesmas Garuda.
Volunteers must also pass COVID-19 health checks and will eliminate those who have contracted the disease which will be determined by rapid and swab tests held by the clinical trial officials.
