Eid al-Adha Qurban; Govt Demands Public Strictly Apply Health Protocols

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government appealed to the public to strictly apply the predetermined health protocols during the qurban or slaughtering of sacrificial animals in Eid al-Adha. Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi said his side had released guidance for qurban amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The guidance was noted in the circular letter of the Religious Affairs Ministry No. 18/2020. Fachrul said that the slaughtering of sacrificial animals in areas with high positive cases and virus transmission must be under strict health protocols.
“Such as maintaining physical distance, personal hygiene of organizers, cleanliness of tools used for processing the meat,” said Fachrul on Wednesday, July 29.
He made the statement during an online event of a national qurban movement commemorating the Islamic feast of sacrifice that was attended by the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) chairman Jusuf Kalla.
Fachrul hoped the strict health protocols applied during the slaughtering of sacrificial animals could cut off COVID-19 transmission, which to date, the curve has not flattened yet and was even rising in several regions.
Minister Fachrul Razi further called on people who are economically capable to perform qurban during Eid al-Adha in order to help needy people, especially amid this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
