TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Yogyakarta Mayor Haryadi Suyuti asserted that Eid al-Adha prayer could be held in mosques that have obtained a letter declaring they are safe from COVID-19 or those in residential complexes given homogenous congregants.

“Including Diponegoro Mosque in Yogyakarta City Hall Complex, yet with limited congregants allowed,” said Haryadi.

Based on the city’s governance and people’s welfare unit data, at least 64 houses of prayers are permitted to hold the mass prayer in commemorating the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice.

“Dozens of the permits are proposed by districts of Danurejan, Gondoaman, Pakualaman, Gedongtengen, and Wirobrajan, and nine other districts in Yogyakarta,” said the unit head Octo Noor Arafat.

The Yogyakarta COVID-19 mitigation task force had issued 200 permits for houses of worship to resume religious activities. “They include mosques and churches only,” the task force head Heroe Poerwadi said on Monday.

A total of four mosques and 21 churches in the city level have been permitted to run worship services, as well as 157 mosques, 10 small mosques, and four churches in the district level.
