Jokowi Passes Law to Protect Victims of Human Rights Violations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s spokesperson in the field of law, Dini Shanti Purwano, said in an official statement today that the president had ratified the Government’s Regulation (PP) No. 35/2020 on July 7, which been passed into law on July 8.

“PP No. 35 is President Jokowi administration’s commitment to protecting Indonesian nationals who fall victims to human rights violations and terrorism. Both domestic and international ones,” said Dini Shanti Purwano on Monday, July 27.

The Government’s Regulation oversees the tangible losses suffered by each victim while the protection will come in the form of protection, compensation, medical assistance, and psychological assistance.

“The government understands the hardships and sorrows suffered by the victims of terrorism and their families that were left behind. This regulation has been updated to assist the victims economically,” said the spokesperson.

Victims and relatives of victims of terrorism can apply for the compensation to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).
