TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria was set to expedite the construction of intermediate treatment facility (ITF) projects in several areas. The facility will be a breakthrough in waste management in Jakarta that so far depended on the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Area (TPST).

“We want to look for breakthroughs in waste management and need to immediately complete the construction project of ITF in several Jakarta areas, including in Bantargebang,” said Ahmad Riza Patria in Jakarta, Friday, July 25.

The breakthrough was aimed at anticipating the existing landfill that was predicted to no longer can accommodate the city’s waste in 2021 if there were no other efforts such as the ITF and waste reduction from the resource carried out.

Jakarta Environment Agency informed that the Bantargebang landfill accommodated around 7,700 tons of garbage per day. In detail, 6,571 tons per day or 85.3 percent from households and social or public facilities, 5,931 tons per day from markets or 7.7 percent, 260.48 tons per day from self-contained areas or 3.4 percent, and the 279.15 tons per day from the Thousand Islands or 3.6 percent.

“The number of waste that is managed to be processed is not equal to the number of garbages received per day,” said Ahmad Riza.
