TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The president of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Sohibul Iman, has rebutted issues that his party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) cannot join hands in the 2020 Regional Head Elections or Pilkada.
Sohibul asserted that both parties even nominated pairs of candidates together in several regions.
“To PKS, the reality is not like that [no partnership with PDIP]. In several regions, the PDIP forms a coalition with PKS, and they even asked for it,” said Sohibul in a press conference at the PKS central executive board office on Friday, July 24.
PKS, which is an opposition to the government, and ruling party PDIP were exploring potential ties in several regions, such as Jambi and Bangka Belitung. Both have reportedly made coalitions in Mataram and Serang for the upcoming regional head elections.
“Since the beginning, PKS gives freedom to its cadres to form a coalition with any party,” Sohibul said, underlining what was important in such collaborations is to pay attention to a region's condition and its public interest.
