TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chairwoman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) Asfinawati said that there are several articles in Presidential Regulation No.73 of 2020, which was passed by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on July 3, 2020, that are believed to further broaden the authority of the coordinating ministry of politics, law, and security affairs or Kemenkopolhukam.

This is seen as a problem as the article was essentially nonexistent in the previous law that was replaced by the new presidential regulation.

"The details of other functions are also unclear. The function of the coordinating minister of politics, law, and security affairs is being flexed," said Asfi.

Moreover, constitutional law expert Bayu Dwi Anggono said the phrase contained in the law that reads "the implementation of other functions given by the President" had created a loophole for the Kemenkopolhukam to be able to perform functions other than the ones vested by the 1945 Constitution.

"This is a form of exceeding the given authority that does not correspond with the principle of certainty and law and order," said Bayu separately.
