TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced that an earthquake of the Magnitude 6.1 had hit the Jepara Regency in Central Java on Tuesday, 05:54 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).

The earthquake epicenter came 53 kilometers Northwest of the Jepara Sea at the depth of 578 kilometers. Fortunately, BMKG deemed it will not cause a tsunami.

According to BMKG’s head of earthquakes and tsunami, Rahmat Triyono, the quake was felt at Karangkates, Nganjuk, Yogyakarta, Purworejo, Kuta, and Mataram. Reports also suggest that it could also be felt up to Denpasar in Bali.

No reports of damage and casualties have been reported even after an aftershock happened at 06:50 local time.
