TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following testing phases in 2019 at tourism areas, PT Transportasi Jakarta or Transjakarta is again testing its electric fleet, EV1 electric bus, to serve commercial routes for the next three months.

“After passing a test phase in a closed area, now is the time to test it in commercial routes,” said Transjakarta Director Sardjono Jhony in a virtual press conference on Monday.

Transjakarta has prepared its single low entry K9 unit and the C6 medium bus with a battery capacity that could last up to 250 kilometers before having to recharge. The charging time for these buses on average is 4 hours.

During the electric Transjakarta test phase, passengers are limited to merely 25 people and 11 passengers for single low buses as the city is under the PSBB restriction.

“This is Transjakarta’s contribution and support to provide passengers with added value, with bus fleets that are more silent and without carbon emissions,” said the director.

The electric bus fleet will be tested from 10:00 - 20:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) with a 45-minute gap between departures. The bus will travel the Blok M route up to City Hall. The company will not charge passengers throughout EV1’s test phase.
