TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Covid-19 mitigation task force spokesperson dr. Reisa Broto Asmoro reminded the public to comply with the seven health protocols when taking public transportation.

“First, make sure you are in a healthy condition. If you develop symptoms of fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, or shortness of breath, just stay at home,” said Reisa in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 1.

Secondly, people are advised to take mass transport that limits the passengers' number should they really need to ride one. Passengers are also obliged to wear face masks, including in the fleet, and wash hands frequently or at least, rubbing hands with sanitizer.

The fifth protocol, she went on, passengers must avert from touching face areas, particularly eyes, nose, and mouth with dirty hands. “The sixth protocol: maintain the physical distance of at least one meter with other people,” Reisa remarked.

Lastly, if public transport is already full of people and seems to be difficult to practice physical distancing, wearing face shields and face masks are highly recommended.

The doctor underlined that safety guidance was drafted by the Health Ministry and Transportation Ministry to protect people’s mobility. The government acknowledged that mobility is part of the public productivity, and that mass transportation is a means promoted by many countries as it is eco-friendly, efficient, and as to reduce air pollution.

However, in this current situation, all elements are demanded to ensure safety in using mass transportation by following the health protocols. “The key to success in this adaptation to a new normal era depends on our success in staying productive while being safe from Covid-19 at the same time,” Reisa Broto underlined.
