TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Java Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Chairperson Herman Muchtar on Monday said that the end of the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) had helped the hotel occupancy rate in Bandung increase to 60 percent the past weekend.

He said that this surge of visitors was most felt last weekend; “It was pretty good last Saturday night, it may have reached roughly 60 percent. But that was only at the weekend. It dropped again on the following Monday,” said Muchtar.

Prior to the new normal adjustment phase that the region is now subjected to, the hotel occupancy rate had only reached 10 percent with a slow and steady increase.

Employees that were laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic had not been entirely re-employed during the new normal phase as hotels are still struggling to regain financial composure.

To help the industry even further, the PHRI is set to offer discounts up to 30 percent to attract visitations from tourists that will be available from July 1 and will last to August 31. “We will offer a minimum 30 percent discount.”

The PHRI Chairperson assured that hotels in the West Java region continue to abide by the government’s health protocols amid a COVID-19 pandemic.
