TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national Covid-19 mitigation task force spokesman Achmad Yurianto reported 1,178 new positive cases today, June 25, bringing the total to 50,187.

The additional virus infections are spread in five regions, namely East Java, Jakarta, South Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Central Java.

"Based on the case distribution, East Java reports 247 new cases and 241 recoveries," said Yurianto in a press conference broadcasted live via BNPB’s Youtube channel today, June 25.

Jakarta, meanwhile, recorded 196 new confirmed cases and 112 recoveries, and South Sulawesi had 103 more positive cases and 59 more recoveries.

North Maluku also reported 80 new cases and one recovery, while Central Java saw 78 new cases without additional recovery.

Yurianto mentioned that based on the epidemiology study, the high surge in new cases in the five provinces was attributable to close contact among the public without the implementation of the predetermined health protocols, such as the use of face masks and physical distancing.

“This is the main factor of the Covid-19 transmission,” Yurianto underlined.
