TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Nadiem Makarim announced on Monday that schools located in COVID-19 green zones are permitted to open the 2020/2021 new school academic year.
However, Nadiem asserts that there are four requirements that must be met before students can start to physically attend a school, among those four, there are two essential requirements that include having permission from the student’s parents and that the presence of education units.
Other requirements include having to obtain permits from the Religious Affairs Ministry’s regional or central headquarters. If all requirements are met, Nadiem Makarim said that physical school activities can be conducted with extra precaution.
“If one of the requirements is not met, students must continue school from home,” said Nadiem Makarim on Monday. “If new cases grow or if there are potential signs of it growing, we will ask education units to close their doors again.”
Schools in COVID-19 green zones will start to open gradually, starting from high schools, junior high, elementary, and eventually primary schools. The third and last phase is to open kindergartens.
