TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial administration has imposed a transitional large-scale social restrictions or PSBB since June 5, 2020, in an effort to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

A number of activities and economic sectors that were prohibited during the first until the third phase of PSBB have been allowed to resume gradually. Governor Anies Baswedan is determined to enact a transition period to the new normal era throughout June.

However, the number of COVID-19 cases in the capital city has not shown a decline thus far. Based on the data presented on the city’s official page corona.jakarta.go.id, there is an increase in positive cases by 1,263 from June 4 to 14. On June 4, there were 7,600 cases, up to 8,863 cases on June 14.

Details about COVID-19 cases in Jakarta during the transitional PSBB are as follows:

June 5, 2020: 7,684 cases

June 6, 2020: 7,786 cases

June 7, 2020: 7,946 cases

June 8, 2020: 8,037 cases

June 9, 2020: 8,276 cases

June 10, 2020: 8,423 cases

June 11, 2020: 8,552 cases

June 12, 2020: 8,628 cases

June 13, 2020: 8,748 cases

June 14, 2020: 8,863 cases

The official site also recorded the highest daily rise in new confirmed cases on June 9, which was 239. Anies explained that during the transitional PSBB, his side adopted the active case-finding method to conduct the COVID-19 rapid tests. This means the Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) will visit the houses of people suspected of being infected with the virus.

Through this method, Anies Baswedan claimed that many people were found to be asymptomatic carriers or OTG, which resulted in a surge in new daily cases that led to the highest record on June 9. The strategy was carried out based on the circular of the city’s Head of Health Agency considering the public has resumed activities ahead of the new normal era.
