TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on Thursday announces that city officials will conduct active case findings to trace people suspected to be infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) during the transitional period ahead of the new normal.

The governor claims that healthcare centers (puskesmas) will be visiting people’s houses, especially if possible cases are detected. The active case finding method is also heavily based on the fact that people are already returning to normal activities.

“We will be going out there looking for cases. Testing numbers will increase. But this is not random testing, we will test those that are believed to be in contact with positive cases,” said Anies Baswedan on Thursday, June 11.

This way, Anies says, health officials will be able to uncover positive coronavirus cases that are considered asymptomatic cases (OTG). He claims this was the main reason behind the record-breaking number of cases on Tuesday this week.

“Last Tuesday, there were 234 people. Forty of them were accumulated from two hospitals, the Pertamina and Persahabatan hospitals. As many as 113 of them are patients, 110 from contact tracing, and 44 percent of them were without symptoms,” said Anies Baswedan.

Jakarta’s COVID-19 cases, up to Thursday, reached 8,276 cases with 1,442 under hospital treatment, 3,369 recoveries, and 547 deaths.
