TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Supported by a suite of business tools, Indonesian super app Gojek has helped more than 100.000 traditional offline Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) struggling to make sustainable earnings during the COVID-19 pandemic, to move online and capture a burgeoning market fuelled by new consumer shopping behavior.

Gojek Co-CEO Andre Soelistyo said, “Times have changed quickly and the survival of many small businesses depends on their ability to digitize and to go online. Your neighborhood restaurant, your coffee shop, your local grocer can no longer be so dependent on walk-in customers. Luckily, helping small entrepreneurs adopt technology has been a core part of our DNA since the very first Gojek driver learned how to use a smartphone. This ability is now more crucial than ever."

“With a complete set of tools that provide a comprehensive solution for MSMEs to develop their business online, from marketing, order taking, payment, delivery to business management, Gojek has taken the lead as a transformational multi-service platform that our users and partners continue to rely on. Over the last three months, approximately 100,000 MSMEs have joined the Gojek platform and we hope our efforts to support the online transformation also support the government to maintain economic stability during the pandemic,” Andre added.

Expanding to online platforms such as Gojek is an increasingly effective way to maintain business stability during the pandemic and Gojek’s business solutions help MSMEs throughout the migration process with the platform’s leading on-demand services such as GoFood, GoPay and GoSend helping MSMEs reach millions of consumers online. Through the GoBiz merchant application, MSMEs can manage and develop their businesses on a reliable, multifunctional and easy-to-use platform. On the standalone Selly App, MSMEs are able to optimally increase sales by targeting potential customers from social media and Gojek’s on-demand services. The super app’s recent acquisition of Moka, Indonesia’s largest Point of Sale (POS) service provider, helps MSMEs to be better equipped to boost their digital operations.

Said Adhani Prima, owner of Ganci Unyu Muslimah in Yogyakarta said, "The COVID-19 pandemic has made shopping online the new normal for our customers. MSMEs like myself must be able to ensure our products are available online to capture the growing online market. Services and features in the Gojek ecosystem have helped me quickly open a successful online store. One of the tools I use is the Selly App which makes it easy for us to run the customers order process, transact with GoPay and make deliveries with GoSend. My income has increased. I never thought that selling online could be this easy.”

Gojek’s support of the UMKM transformation goes beyond the tools and services available on the platform and into strategic partnerships. To date Gojek has partnered with various government institutions including the Ministry of Agriculture where a special program enables traders in the Mitra Tani Market to reach a wider range of customers through the Gojek platform.

Gojek also supports the #BanggaBuatanIndonesia (#ProudlyMadeinIndonesia) national movement initiated by the Indonesian government by connecting hundreds of thousands of MSMEs to millions of Gojek customers.

MSMEs are the backbone of the Indonesian economy and strengthening their financial and technological capabilities and bringing them online will positively benefit everyone.
