TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A powerful earthquake measuring at 7.1 magnitudes on the Richter scale rocked North Maluku on Thursday late afternoon, June 4, 2020.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 89 kilometers northwest of Daruba waters, a village in Morotai Island Regency.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 112 kilometers beneath the sea and had no tsunami potential. However, the tremor which was felt at 3:49 p.m. was registered at IV MMI level.

The tremor was also felt in several regions, including Manado, Minahasa, Bitung, Ternate, Bolaang Mongondow, Talaud, Tahuna, and Sitaro at II-III MMI level.

Previously, a 6-magnitude earthquake jolted West Nusa Tenggara on late Wednesday. On Thursday morning, the Sigi region in Aceh also experienced a 4.8 magnitude quake that was centered on land.
