TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) team arrested former supreme court secretary Nurhadi Abdurrachman and his son-in-law, Rezky Herbiyono on Monday at a sumptuous house located in South Jakarta.

KPK deputy Nurul Ghufron said that the team received a tip on the fugitives’ location, who now both face graft allegations.

“We received information from members of the public at 18:00,” said the deputy on Tuesday, June 2.

The operation launched against the two started in February and was led by senior investigator Novel Baswedan.

According to KPK’s law enforcer, the hunt for Nurhadi was directly supervised by KPK Deputy Nawawi Pomolango who summoned Novel and his team of investigators to arrest Nurhadi or Harun Masiku, who remains a fugitive to this day for bribing a member of the General Elections Commission.

The team then agreed to the request with the requirement that only Nawawi would know about such an operation. Just two days after that the team obtained a permit from the commission’s monitoring board.

Nawawi confirmed that he had summoned Novel Baswedan and his team for updates on the case. “Thank goodness just two days after that the results can be seen. They are an incredible team. I was monitoring the team from the headquarters, just to make sure they are in a safe condition,” said Nawawi to Koran Tempo.

Nawawi did not deny that four other KPK leaders were not informed of the operation to arrest Nurhadi and that he was the only member of the KPK board of leaders who was on stand by at the headquarters during the operation.

“The team had obtained a permit, it would be funny if each and every step they make must be reported first to those giving the orders,” said Nawawi.
