TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) will deploy 340,000 joint personnel to oversee the implementation of the freshly-introduced societal health protocols in line with the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) policy on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

“The objects are places of societal interactions, malls, traditional markets and tourist spots,” said TNI Commander Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto on Tuesday.

Restrictions also affect public places. Malls, for example, whose capacity on normal days reaches 1,000 visitors, will only be allowed to accommodate 500 people, while restaurants with capacity of 500 people can only serve 200 customers.

Hadi said the first stage of the health protocol disciplinary measures would take place in four provinces and 25 regencies/cities. The four provinces are Jakarta, West Java (Bekasi in particular), West Sumatra and Gorontalo.

“Some 340,000 joint personnel are involved to secure 1,800 spots in the four provinces,” Hadi said.

Hadi added the personnel would focus on several issues during the operations, viz. people’s obligation to wear masks, physical distancing, and the availability of hand-washing facilities and sanitizers.
