TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A recent survey conducted by pollster Survei Roda Tiga Konsultan (RTK) claims that respondents score the work performance of provincial administrations higher than those shown by the central government and city or district administrations.

Provincial administrations obtained average scores higher than their government counterparts. The RTK by phone survey involved 1,200 respondents from May 7-May 17th who were randomly picked based on stratified random sampling from previous RTK studies.

Citing the RTK survey regarding “people’s view on the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic”, Out of the three layers of government, the central government scored the lowest with an average of 6.78/10. Compare this to the average score of 7.05/10 obtained by provincial governments and the average score of 6.99/10 scored by district/city administrators.

Moreover, only 23.3 percent out of 76.7 percent of respondents claim they had received government social assistance throughout the pandemic. 10 percent of that social assistance comes from district/city governments, 5.3 percent came from government central, and 3 percent came from provincial governments. Respondents claim the social institutions provided the most with 4.8 percent.

Despite providing the least social assistance, respondents deem the performance of the provincial government is much better which RTK argues is due to the effect of positive news reports on political figures and governors. This is seen as the aspect that overcomes what provincial governments lack in terms of providing assistance.

“However, the work performance of provincial governments is considered better compared to those shown by central government or district and city governments,” the RTK report stated.

The RTK survey has a margin of error of 2.89 percent.
