TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang City is reportedly opening AirAsia international flights to and from Kuala Lumpur within the period of May 18 - May 23.

Its first flight post coronavirus (COVID-19) closure, the AK 328, carrying 57 Indonesians from Malaysia took place on May 18. The AirAsia flight returned to Kuala Lumpur carrying 7 passengers.

“Intense coordination and simulation were conducted on Sunday, May 17,” said Ahmad Yani Airport’s Angkasa Pura I general-manager Hardi Ariyanto on Monday.

He assured that passengers were subjected to strict health protocols, which include requirements to carry official health certificates from polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests before being cleared to continue customs inspection.

However, those who do not carry COVID-19-negative health certificates are not rejected to board flights but are required to undergo numerous health tests which include rapid tests by the port health office (KKP) or the Health Agency.

Officials also claim airplane passengers to and from Malaysia are thoroughly registered by the Central Java Agency for Manpower and Transmigration.
