TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan asks the residents of the capital city to not go for local mudik to Greater Jakarta areas of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Bodetabek). He urges people to limit their activities outside the house.

Mudik is the annual exodus during Eid al-Fitr holiday and local mudik means mudik activity within the Greater Jakarta area.

“Don’t go for local mudik, what you may do is virtual mudik,” he said in a written statement Saturday, May 16, explaining the Governor Regulation No. 47/2020 concerning the restriction to leave or enter Jakarta in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

It regulates the people from outside Jabodetabek areas who wish to leave or enter the capital city should be granted with a permit letter called SIKM. Anies asserted that the permission will only be granted for essential needs as referred to the regulation in the Large-scale Social Restriction or PSBB.

“Meaning that everyone should stay at home. Those who are allowed to leave are because of the nature of their jobs in 11 sectors or those who are tasked to leave [for certain needs],” the governor explained, underlining that the local mudik is banned.

Anies Baswedan on May 14 inked the regulation that limits the movement of people from outside the Greater Jakarta areas that want to leave or enter the capital city in order to avoid the spread of the coronavirus transmission.
