TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Headquarters stated that 109 released convicts have been found to go back to their criminal ways. However, as revealed by the Police Headquarters, this figure is less than one percent of the nation’s total crime in April 2020.

According to the Police Chief of Public Information, Senior Commissioner Ahmad Ramadhan, the 109 released convicts found to have committed criminal offenses represent only 0.28 percent of the nation’s total of 38.822 released convicts.

"And when the figure is compared with the (total) number of crimes in April, which is 15,322, then the number of crimes committed by released convicts is only 0.7 percent," said Ahmad, on Friday, May 15.

Criminal offenses committed by the released convicts, Ahmad continued, were largely found to be driven by economic motives.

Based on police data, theft was recorded at 71 cases; while the rest are narcotics, abuse and beatings, rape and molestation, fraud and embezzlement, gambling, murder, and cases of possession of weapons.

In addition, the Central Java Regional Police recorded the most cases at 15, followed by the North Sumatra Regional Police with 14 cases, the West Java Regional Police with 11 cases, the West Kalimantan Regional Police with 10 cases, and the Riau Regional Police with 9 cases.
