TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta COVID-19 Task Force Team reported that the number of people who do not develop any symptom of the coronavirus infection or silent carriers continued to rise, reaching 1,546 to date.

“There are 1,546 asymptomatic carriers (OTG),” said the task force member Ani Ruspitawati in an online press conference at the City Hall, Tuesday, May 5.

The figure increased for the past few days. As of Sunday, May 3, the number of the silent virus carriers amounted to 1,347 people and was recorded at 1,544 people on Monday.

According to the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) chairman Daeng Muhammad Faqih, some 80 percent of the infected people are asymptomatic.

“OTG is a person who has COVID-19 but does not manifest any clinical symptoms. In the past, they are categorized as ODPs, but now they are separated. OTGs with no symptom at all and ODPs with very mild symptoms can self-isolate themselves at home,” said Daeng in a special interview with Tempo Magazine’s April 21, 2020, edition.

Daeng further reminded the importance of OTGs management considering people they come in contact with did not suspect them of having coronavirus.
