Jakarta Governor Optimistic about Surviving the COVID-19 Pandemic

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In his acceptance speech in Monday’s virtual Education Day ceremony, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that the current global COVID-19 pandemic is something that not every generation would experience and asked people to view it as a humanitarian event.
“Our generation is destined to have this experience. Not many generations in the history of humanity are faced by such a unique experience like this,” said Anies on Monday, May 4.
Moreover, in relation to the education sector, he acknowledged that the coronavirus pandemic spreading in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, has presented a significant change to the process of studying as teachers must present subjects that are engaging despite being separated by distance.
“This situation surely presents many challenges but we must be able to [take the good out of a difficult situation],” said the governor. “Boost more breakthroughs and do any activities that can change hard situations seem somewhat more livable.”
Anies Baswedan is also optimistic that each and everyone facing the COVID-19 pandemic will survive through the ordeal as many generations facing pandemics before have proven.
As of May 3, the official COVID-19 statistic shows 11,192 confirmed cases with 1,876 recoveries and 846 deaths. Most of the patients are from Jakarta.
