TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of students from various education institutions produced face shields as part of personal protective equipment (PPE) to help medical workers treating COVID-19 patients in Jakarta Greater Area or Jabodetabek.

“We can assure that every face shield has met the standard so it is safe for use,” said Vijjasena Sugiono, a student of Sinarmas World Academy who is also the initiator of the students’ movement Teencov19 Face Shield in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 28.

Vijjasena and dozens of other students had managed to make some 1,100 units of the protective equipment and had distributed them to 15 state institutions including Zahirah Hospital, Kramat Jati Regional Hospital, and West Jakarta Mayoral Office.

The students reportedly could produce 600 face shields in one week. The design of the PPE followed the health standard and was approved by hospitals.

The General Manager of Sinarmas World Academy, Deddy Djaja, Ria said the school and parents fully supported the youth movement during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are proud of the students’ initiative in Teencov19, not only a pride for us the school but also for the nation,” Deddy remarked.
