TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta provincial administration set up city-owned sports halls (GOR) to accommodate people with social welfare problems (PMKS) during Ramadan and the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 pandemic.
Governor Anies Baswedan promised the city will fulfill the needs of the homeless.
“We prepare this temporary place for Jakartans who have no place because they can no longer afford their rent,” said Anies at Karet Tengsin GOR in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, as published through the city’s Youtube channel on Monday, April 27.
Central Jakarta Social Agency Head Ngapuli Parangin Angin explained that during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, Karet Tengsin GOR would be repurposed into a temporary shelter for those people with social welfare problems, including homeless.
“As instructed by Pak Governor, Pak Mayor, and Jakarta Social Agency, residents having social welfare problems secured by Public Order Agency or Satpol PP and police will be accommodated in Tanah Abang GOR,” said Ngapuli as quoted from Antara on Monday, April 27.
Ngapuli added that the temporary shelter would be equipped with a health facility and a public kitchen.
