TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of people recovering from the novel coronavirus disease or COVID-19 in Indonesia continues to grow. As of Friday, April 24, a total of 1,002 patients have been declared cured and discharged from hospital.

“A total of 1,002 patients have recovered,” said the government’s spokesman for the disease handling, Achmad Yurianto, at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Building, Jakarta, on Friday, adding there were 42 new recoveries within the last 24 hours.

However, the government also recorded 436 new positive cases, bringing the tally to 8,211 cases. The death toll, meanwhile, reaches 689.

Yurianto outlined that 197,951 people were under monitoring (ODP), and the number of patients under monitoring (PDP) amounted to 18,301 as they were waiting for their test results. At present, Indonesia has 45 laboratories that actively carry out the tests.

According to Yurianto, the public plays an important role in suppressing the spread of the new coronavirus. Therefore, he called on the public to comply with the government’s order to stay at home and refrain from joining mass exodus or mudik during this Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holidays.

He also reminded all to wear face masks when leaving home and wash hands thoroughly using soap and running water before eating and drinking.
