TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Transportation has revised the period of the national ban on homecoming, or mudik ban. The Ministry’s spokesperson, Adita Irawati, explained that the time period will be made uniform for all modes of transportation, starting from April 24 until May 31.

“After evaluation, the enactment of the mudik ban will be the same for all modes of transportation; from April 24 to May 31, 2020," said Adita, on Friday, April 24.

Her statement corrected an earlier statement conveyed at a streamed conference by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) on Thursday, April 23. At that time, Adita explained that the ban would end at a different time for each mode of transport.

Initially, the homecoming ban will be applied until May 31 for land transport, June 1 for air transport, June 8 for sea transport, and June 15 for trains.

The national ban on mudik has been penned through the Minister of Transportation Regulation Regulation No. 25/2020 concerning Transportation Control During the Eid al-Fitr 1441 H, in regards to preventing the COVID-19 transmission.

In the regulation, signed by Acting Minister of Transportation Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, the government has banned all commercial transportation. This regulation applies in the Large Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) areas, COVID-19 red zones, the Greater Jakarta area, and other agglomeration areas.

During the enactment of the national mudik ban, only exempted vehicles are allowed to pass, such as logistics vehicles carrying medical equipment or food staples.
