TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) spokesman Halik Malik announced that one of its members and South Kalimantan’s first pulmonologist Hasan Zain has perished due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Halik revealed that Hasan’s condition was already critical after being admitted to Ulin Banjarmasin General Hospital’s ICU. The senior pulmonologist was previously treated at the hospital's isolation chamber as a patient who was monitored for the coronavirus disease (PDP).

“As it turned out, his swab test confirmed he was positive for COVID-19. In other words, he died because of COVID-19,” said Halik in Wednesday’s written statement. “He was a senior and first pulmonologist in South Kalimantan.”

Hasan Malik died on Wednesday, April 15, at 07:30 local time (WITA). Throughout his life, Hasan was Ulin Banjarmasin General Hospital’s Director who remained active even after he officially retired and continued to treat patients at the Islam Banjarmasin Hospital and Suaka Insan Banjarmasin Hospital.

“He was dedicated to treating patients and was socially active in his community up to the last days of his life,” said Halik.
