TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jabodetabek Transportation Agency (BPTJ) Head Polana B. Pramesti ensured that online ojek or online-based motorcycle taxis are prohibited from carrying passengers in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas during the implementation of the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).

According to Polana, all regional governments that attended the meeting on April 13, 2020, agreed on the decision.

"Regarding the motorcycle taxi operation, all meeting participants agreed that during the PSBB period, it will not be allowed to transport passengers in Jabodetabek areas," said Polana in a written statement, Monday night, April 13.

The teleconference meeting was attended by representatives of the provincial, city, and regency transportation offices in Jabodetabek or Jakarta Greater area.

She added that the meeting attendees also agreed that the rules on public transportation in Jabodetabek must be in sync with each other. Policies issued by each local administration will be adjusted to the needs of each region given their own characteristics.

Nevertheless, mass transportation adjusted its operating hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The operations, Polana went on, must comply with the health protocols in an effort to prevent virus transmission.

"What is important in this PSBB status is that the transportation, especially passenger transportation, is not stopped at all, but its operating hours and the number of passengers are restricted,” Polana concluded.

In line with the enforcement of the large-scale social restrictions in the capital, Anies Baswedan noted that online ojek or the conventional ones were not permitted to carry passengers, but deliver goods.
