TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Mount Merapi erupted again on Friday morning, April 10, 2020, at 09:10 local time, with the height of the column at 3,000 meters above the crater.

The eruptions were recorded on a seismogram at an amplitude of 75 mm in 103 seconds. The direction of the wind during the eruption was to the Northwest, prompting nearby residents in that direction to anticipate ash rain.

"Residents were wary; those who own vehicles have prepared to immediately evacuate," said Bambang Sugeng, a resident of Umbulharjo, Sleman, situated near the Central Java volcano, on Friday, April 10, 2020.

The Yogyakarta Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) has asked nearby residents to stay calm. Although the most recent eruption is the sixth Merapi eruption in the past two weeks, since March 27, 2020, the volcano’s activity is still measured at alert Level II (Waspada).

“The danger zone is within a radius of 3 kilometers from the crater of the mountain. Should ash rains occur, the community needs to anticipate disruptions (to their activity) due to volcanic ash," said Chief of the Yogyakarta BPPTKG, Hanik Humaida.

Merapi last erupted on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at 15:10. Eruptions were recorded on a seismogram with an amplitude of 78 mm and a duration of 345 seconds; the height of the ash and dust column were recorded to reach 3,000 meters from the crater.

Mount Merapi has had a series of eruptions since first recorded on Friday morning, March 27, 2020. The first eruption ejected volcanic materials as high as 5 kilometers. Since then, there have been at least six eruptions to this day.
